IBPS PO recruits Probationary Officers and Management Trainees for participating public sector banks, through a three-stage process: Prelims, Mains, and an interview. It is markedly different from the SSC exams in one important way — banking exams test speed and data-handling under pressure far more than they test static general knowledge.

Prelims is a qualifying round: 100 questions across English Language (30), Quantitative Aptitude (35), and Reasoning (35), in a short, strictly timed sitting. Its only job is to screen out candidates who can't clear a baseline — your Prelims score itself does not carry forward into the final merit list, so there's no benefit to over-polishing it beyond comfortably clearing the cutoff.

Mains Objective is where the real weightage lives: Reasoning (40), General/Economy/Banking Awareness (50), English (40), and Data Analysis & Interpretation (40) — 170 questions in total. Banking Awareness here is deliberately not a repeat of generic static GK; it covers RBI policy, monetary tools, banking terminology, and financial-sector current affairs specifically, so generic GA revision from an SSC-style exam will leave real gaps. Data Analysis & Interpretation is the section candidates most underestimate — it rewards practiced speed at reading tables, graphs, and caselets more than any formula you can memorize in advance.

The most commonly neglected part of the whole exam is Mains Descriptive — an essay and a letter-writing task, handwritten or typed depending on the exam mode, that many candidates treat as an afterthought because it's not multiple-choice. It is scored, it has a qualifying cutoff, and unlike the objective sections you cannot guess your way through it. Practice writing full-length essays and formal letters under a strict time limit well before the exam, not the week of.

Camino Prep's IBPS PO question bank covers Prelims, Mains Objective, and Mains Descriptive with the real sectional weightage above, bilingual English/Hindi instructions, and model answers for the descriptive items. Check the exam calendar for this cycle's prelims, mains, and result dates.
